ESSAY CONTEST


The Beaverton Optimist Club is sponsoring an Essay Contest, the entry point for the Optimist International District level Essay Contest. The winner of our club's contest will automatically be entered in the District Level contest. The District level contest winner will receive a $2500 scholarship.

Topic for the 2017-18 School Year is: "Can Society Function Without Respect?"

Who: Youth under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2017 located in the United States, Canada, or the Caribbean.

How To Enter: Interested students must contact their local Optimist Club. They need to submit an essay on the pre-assigned topic.

Rules to follow in submitting an essay for judging are included in the entry form which can be found on the Optimist International web page at:


This entry form must be printed, filled out, and included with the essay submission.

Students must submit their essay with title page and a completed entry form to reach the address below no later than February 1, 2016.  It is important to very carefully read and follow the instructions and rules on the entry form. A copy of the student's birth certificate will be required to participate in the district contest for a chance to win the $2500 scholarship.

Contest Winners

Alena Arounpradith is this year's winner of the Beaverton Optimist Club's Essay Contest. She went on to win the District and then headed to Canada to the International Competition.

Madeleine Smith

Madeleine went on to win win first place in 2015 in district competition and a $2,500 scholarship. Congratulations Madeleine!

ORATORICAL CONTEST


Young people get a great chance to share their public speaking talent at this contest.  


The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters the chance to speak to the world. More than $150,000 in college scholarships funded by the Optimist International Foundations is awarded annually from this program.
